p-mon, every repository at a glance

Scans a folder of git repositories and shows which ones have work you forgot to commit.

What it found

The tools that survive are the ones that remove a specific recurring irritation, not the ones with the most capability. This took an afternoon and is still used daily.

The work

What was actually built

Written in an afternoon out of irritation, after losing an evening's work that was sitting uncommitted in a directory I had stopped thinking about.

It walks a folder, finds every git repository under it, and prints what is dirty, what is ahead, and what is behind. That is all it does.

It is the most-used thing on this page, which is worth recording. The experiment, retrospectively, was about what earns a place in a daily routine, and the answer was not sophistication.
